Core features

Protected messages

Every message is delivered via a secure, revocable link. Recipients open it in the YouMel viewer.

Changed your mind? Revoke access to any message or attachment at any time, even after delivery.

Read receipts

Know exactly when your message was opened, how many times, and on which device.

Auto-expiry

Set messages to expire after hours, days, or weeks. Expired messages disappear from the recipient's inbox automatically.

Password protection

Add an optional password to any message. Only recipients who know the password can open it.

Archive

Save important conversations securely in your personal archive. Encrypted, cross-device, with quota by plan.

Block senders

Block any email address or entire domain from contacting you. Blocked senders receive no notification.

Attachment scanning

Files are scanned with ClamAV before delivery. Infected attachments are blocked automatically.

Frequently asked questions
Does the recipient need a YouMel account to read my message?
No. Recipients open messages via a secure link in any browser. No account or app required. If they want to reply, archive, or use advanced features, they can create a free account.
What happens when I revoke a message?
The message immediately becomes inaccessible to all recipients. The secure link returns an error. Any attachments are also revoked simultaneously. The message remains visible in your Sent folder.
What happens when a message expires?
Once the expiry time passes, the recipient can no longer open the message — it moves to their Trash automatically. The sender can still see it in Sent with an "expired" status. The message is not deleted from the database until the sender explicitly deletes it.
Can I set a password on a message?
Yes. In the compose screen, under Protection options, you can add an optional password. The recipient will be prompted to enter it before the message opens. Share the password via a separate channel (phone, SMS) for best security.
How does the Archive work?
The Archive lets you save messages and conversations securely on YouMel's servers, encrypted and accessible from any device. FREE accounts get 1 MB to try it. PRO accounts get 500 MB, Enterprise 2 GB. When your quota is full, an upgrade prompt appears.
Are my attachments scanned for viruses?
Yes. All attachments are scanned with ClamAV (open-source antivirus) before being made available to recipients. Files flagged as infected are blocked and the recipient is notified. Scanning happens on our server — files never leave our infrastructure during the scan.
How do I block someone?
Open any message from the sender, click the ⋯ menu or the block icon, and choose "Block email" or "Block domain". Blocked senders receive no notification and future messages from them are silently rejected. You can manage your block list under Security → Contacts Blocked.
Can I connect Gmail or Outlook to YouMel?
Enterprise accounts can connect up to 7 external IMAP accounts (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo…) and read them inside the YouMel interface. Gmail connections use OAuth2 — your password is never stored.
What is Protected mode?
Protected mode (enabled by default) delivers your message via a secure YouMel viewer link instead of as plain email text. This enables read receipts, revocation, expiry, and attachment control. Turning it off sends a regular email — you lose all tracking and control features.
How do I report abuse?
Open the message, click the 🚩 Report abuse button (in the message detail panel or via the ⋯ menu). Select a reason (Spam, Harassment, Phishing, Malware, etc.) and optionally add a description. Our moderation team reviews every report. The message content and attachments are preserved for investigation.
Is YouMel free forever?
Yes — the FREE plan is permanent and never expires. It includes unlimited message sending, read receipts, revocation, expiry, blocking, and 1 MB of archive storage. Paid plans unlock unlimited recipients, larger archive quotas, custom branding, and more.
In which languages is YouMel available?
YouMel is fully translated into 11 languages: English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, and Swahili. The interface language is detected automatically from your browser settings and can be changed manually at the bottom of the sidebar.
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored on servers located in the European Union. Attachments are encrypted at rest. We never sell or share your data with advertisers. See our Privacy & Legal page for full details.
How do I delete my account?
Go to account settings (click your avatar → Settings) and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, messages, and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.
